25 May 2008 Social Gathering - Hiking at Tung O Ancient Trail in Lantau (jointly organized with HKIEIA and HKIOA)
Our journey to Tung O Ancient Trail on 25.5.08 was joined by 37 members from CIWEM HK, HKIEIA, HKIOA and ECC (Effective Communication Club). The route from Tung Chung to Tai O started at Tung Chung MTR Station, passing through Yat Tung Estate, Tung Chung Bay, Hau Wong Temple, San Tau SSSI (site of special scientific interest), Hau Hok Wan, Sha Lo Wan, San Shek Wan, and arrived in Sham Wat, which took us about 3 hours. After a wonderful lunch, we set off along the coastline of the northwest Lantau and arrive in Tai O to finish this tour. This coastal walk is scenically magnificent, passing some quaint villages, built heritage, ecological-valued habitats, and ancient trees. All these exhibit prominent contrast against the rapid modernisation and civilisation of north Lantau and Tung Chung new town, e.g. the airport, cable car, planned development of cross-border road networks, logistics park, container terminal, etc.
All participants enjoyed very much the opportunity to take a break from our daily work, but also to socialise among old and new friends. We express our sincere gratitude to the hiking leader and volunteers from the ECC.
