Statement by the Scottish Branch Committee ahead of CIWEM EGM on Weds 15th of July 2009

Message from CIWEM Scottish Branch Chair

We are now currently part of the way through our programme for this year and the first event of the year, Sustainable Flood Retention Basins to Control Flooding and Diffuse Pollution was well attended and copies of the three presentations are available from Miklas Scholtz (email - m.scholtz@ed.ac.uk).

We are now fast approaching our annual dinner and symposium on the 2nd and 3rd of November, which this year is being organised by Ian McLauchlan (email ian.mclauchlan@entecuk.co.uk)  and this year, we will be holding the event at the Barcelo Edinburgh Carlton Hotel with our after dinner speaker George McNeill, who is a former sprinter with a successful sporting career, who on retirement from athletics involved with fitness coaching of various football teams including Livingston FC. The symposium on the following day is titled 'Flood Risk Management in the 21st Centaury - Keeping our heads above water' and is focused at addressing the major issues in Flood Risk Management with key presentations from the public and private sectors, consultants and other associated bodies. The symposium opens with an indepth look at preparing European regional flood plans based on novel structural and non structural adaptive measures, with the focus shifting towards the complex and significant impact of urban drainage bring the day to a close. We have been fortunate to hold the prices for the annual symposium and dinner at 2008 levels with a discounted rate available for our graduate and retired members. For further information and a booking form, either contact Ian McLauchlan (email ian.mclauchlan@entecuk.co.uk) or visit the section on our website for a copy of the flier for this event.

If you are unable to join us for our annual dinner and symposium, we still have a number of events scheduled to take place before the end of the year including evening meetings on the 'Remediation of Royal Inch Crescent, Renfrew' at the Teachers Building in Glasgow on the 18th of November and 'Advances in Hydraulic Modelling' on the 10th of December in Edinburgh and I look forward to seeing you at either of these events.

Regards

There will also be the opportunity to 'network' at the Annual Dinner event, please let me know if this would be of interest to you and we can look at scheduling getting together after the meal and raffle.
