Why Water?

...Because water is life and without it we cease to exist.

Water is at the heart of our growing concerns related to environmental issues and global politics due to the threat of water scarcity; water pollution; poor sanitation; waterborne diseases and climate variability due to global warming. If we add to this the unequal distribution of water throughout differing regions of the world we have major challenges to overcome. Our reliance on water is abundant and therefore there is a need for us to start acknowledging the real value of this precious resource recognising that the ecosystem is a consumer of water alongside humans, industry and agriculture. Tomorrow's Water is a competition set up to support young people in facing these facets of global importance and through the gauntlet down to a new generation of students - are you ready to look at water? Are you ready to shape our future?

"Earth with all its' major splendour, is our only home. These interrelated worldwide water crises simply have to be addressed with all of the energy and imagination of which humans are capable because the entire planet depends on this vital element, which is the very essence of life." - Mark Niemeyer (2008)
