CIWEM’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2009
WATER & THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT

Olympia Conference Centre, London, 29th – 30th April 2009

Lead Sponsor: MWH

Aim   Water and environmental management are fundamental to our long term future, both in the UK and internationally. In April 2009 CIWEM will hold a two-day Annual Conference that will address multidisciplinary issues across all areas of the global water and environment sector. There will be a mix of keynote speakers, offered papers, exhibitions and networking opportunities that will make this the key event for water and environment professionals.

Format   Keynote speakers will address all delegates at key points throughout the event. They will be industry leaders, policy makers and key advocates that are shaping the future of the water and environmental sector. There will be two parallel sessions on each day, with 50 presentations over the two days.

Presentations   This conference will be organised on an academic model and there will be a call for speakers. All the speakers confirmed by the conference organising committee will pay the delegate rate.

Networking   There will be a conference dinner and many opportunities to share experiences with colleagues and forge new relationships. CIWEM staff and trustees will be on hand to help develop and explain the Institution’s work.

Exhibition  Exhibitors will showcase the diversity of the water and environment industry, allowing delegates to network with industry peers and experts face to face.

There are comprehensive exhibitor and sponsorship packages for the conference – please contact Justin Taberham for further information, justin@ciwem.org.

Organisation and value for money   The conference is being organised for CIWEM by Bob Earll, CMS. The overall fee structures for delegates and exhibitor/sponsors for the event will be in line with those we use for CIWEM’s one day events, maintaining the value for money approach that we have developed over a number of years.

Call for Papers On May 15th, we will be issuing a Call for Papers. The organising committee are inviting papers which cover any aspect of the water and environment sector and would welcome submissions of papers that cover policy and legislation, practice, projects and initiatives, research and case studies. We are keen to see how UK, European and international case work is shaping future agendas. We will be inviting papers of the highest quality in the following areas:

• Water management – water resources, water quality, wastewater management
• Flood risk management including surface water management
• Integration and catchment and river basin management
• Environment sector policy and legislation
• Climate change
• Sustainability, and how its principles are being applied
• The integration of the arts within environmental projects
• Societal impacts of climate change on health, faith, culture and diversity
• Cross sectoral challenges and integration between sectors

For further information, to respond to the call for papers or to register for the conference, please contact:
