In 2011 the Government and its major environmental agencies
embarked upon a major change to the way it wanted to see delivery
of the Water framework Directive. In particular it is looking to
deliver plans and measures at a local level with the active
engagement of a wide range of stakeholders and communities. The aim
of this conference is to share the learning emerging from the early
stages of this process, consider the major objectives of the WFD
programme in 2012, in particular how plans will link together, and
then a range issues that will help inform the roll out of the
approach from 2013 and beyond, including funding, information
provision and integration.
Objectives
- To provide an update on the WFD Catchment Based Approach
programme, including the direction of Government thinking and the
pilot phase
- To highlight how this links with the key priorities of the WFD
agenda for the year in particular how catchment plans will be
coordinated with River Basin Plans in 2015.
- To look at a range of issues that arise from both these
programmes including:
-Roles and Responsibilities
-Funding and durability
-Information and how it is being provided and by whom
-Issues arising from working in an integrated manner on water and
land use issues
-How the programme will be rolled out wider from 2013 and
beyond
- To help promote the programme to future partners and help them
to prepare to participate in across all catchments in England
- To test and scope ideas that will assist the rollout of the
Catchment based approach and WFD
