Wessex Water, Claverton Down, Bath, BA2 7WW
18:00 for 18:30 start
The revised Bathing Water Directive comes into effect in 2015
and its introduction will set tighter standards for bathing waters.
Discharges from the sewage treatment works (STW) at
Weston-super-Mare were understood to be having an adverse
impact on bathing water quality, with a risk that they would fail
to meet the new standard. An AMP5 project was established to
improve the quality of effluent discharged from the STW, and reduce
frequency and volume of storm overflow discharges.
Stephen Tomlin, Sewage Treatment Planning Manager at Wessex
Water, will explain the background and development of the
improvement works at Weston-super-Mare STW. Stuart Lewis, Wessex
Water's Treatment 1 Workstream Programme Manager, will discuss
designand construction challenges. Mark Doughty, Principal
Ecologist at Wessex Water, will present on the environmental
mitigation aspects of this project.
