CIWEM Policy

We work through a range of special interest groups and networks to harness the strong technical expertise of our members, ensuring that we deliver high quality, timely research, reports, advice and guidance on a wide range of environmental issues.

We proactively inform policy development and change via our policy position statements and more detailed technical and policy reports, bringing impartiality and evidence together for environmental benefit. Browse the topic links below to view our policy work in these areas.

We also make constructive responses to public consultations and parliamentary committee inquiries, providing professional input into the decision-making process.

Our Parliamentary Engagement

Parliamentary Committees and All Party Parliamentary Groups play a key role in scrutinising, evaluating and influencing government policy. Our active involvement with these groups helps us to ensure that an integrated approach to environmental, social and cultural issues is maintained throughout Government policy. Increasing CIWEM’s profile among parliamentarians, departments, committees, think tanks and groups help us to achieve this. Actively engaging with parliamentarians is vital to the ability of CIWEM to influence decision makers and promote policy and regulation which is effective in driving sustainability.

If you’d like to get involved in any of our policy and technical work there are many opportunities to join a community related to your area of expertise.
