Flood protection and the Environment – how to manage the balance
Wednesday 15th February 2017 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Flooding has become a major issue in Ireland, repeatedly causing massive social and
economic impacts on people and places. With flood events becoming more frequent
and increasing in magnitude, public expenditure is being ramped up, with masses of
work to be completed for the foreseeable future to manage this increasing flood risk.
The talk will extract the lessons learned from the experience to date and explain best
practice in how to approach water sector activities, in striving for sustainable
development. It will round off with a look at how this water management sector will
evolve, in the direction of more integrated catchment management, and how the
European Commission is setting up this framework.
Admission is free and all are welcome!
