9th July 2009 Energy from Waste in Wales 2009 - using our assets All Nations Centre, Cardiff
Wales continues to lead the way with ambitious plans to achieve zero waste by 2050. With a goal of 70% recycling by 2025, local authorities are actively involved with efforts to recycle, re-use and reduce waste. Waste can however be an asset when used as a renewable fuel to replace our declining fossil fuels and particularly when used to produce both electricity and heat.
This conference considers CHP and the great potential it offers for increased energy efficiency, cost savings and reducing environmental impacts. We look at closed loop systems where increasingly power produced is being utilised to heat neighbouring installations and also at the new technologies being advanced to deal with as much of the residual waste as possible.
The day will provide essential information for all those involved in the waste and energy sectors featuring planning and funding issues, new technology and new projects along with significant case studies.

This national policy conference will examine the implications of these decisions across the sector, how to make these a success, and what might come next, including. • How can we encourage further investment in the sector? • Do we have to choose between the environment and customers? • Is the current regulatory system still fit for purpose? • How can we improve the industry's skills and increase innovation? • Will PR09 and the review on metering deliver a fair deal for all customers?

15th July 2009 Developing Welsh Biogas 2009 All Nations Centre, Cardiff
Anaerobic Digestion would seem to offer the perfect closed loop sustainable solution for our waste. It is treated in a closed environment ensuring no uncontrolled emissions, noise or odour; it produces energy to power processes and systems; it can generate both electricity and heat; it can provide a fertiliser to assist with crop growing or fuel to power vehicles and any excess can be transferred back to the grid as renewable energy. The Welsh Assembly Government has provided £26m for Local Authorities to invest in the provision of biogas from waste.
This conference looks at the potential of AD in Wales for industry, Local Authorities, the farming community and transport. The programme covers funding and policy issues, planning and delivery considerations, food waste collections, farming co-operatives, transport opportunities.

Deadline For Water Efficiency Awards extended
The Environment Agency has extended the deadline for entries for the 2009 Water Efficiency Awards by four weeks in recognition of the busy agenda that many businesses are facing.
Companies wishing to be recognised for their efforts to reduce water consumption now have until Friday 15th May 2009 to enter.
Research conducted for the launch of the awards indicate that it has never been more important to reward sustainability within business with 55% of UK businesses set to cut back on future investment in sustainability measures as a result of economic necessity. Not only does this have an impact on the environment but also businesses are missing out on an opportunity to save money, especially important in these tough economic times. Envirowise, the Government-funded programme to help businesses with the sustainable use of resources, estimates that UK companies could save £9 million a day through simple water efficiency measures.
The awards, now in their ninth year, are the leading scheme in England and Wales for recognising the achievements of business in promoting water efficiency. The awards have been given a new look for 2009, with businesses now able to apply for the first time via the new website: www.water-efficiency-awards.org.uk
The site contains information about the judging criteria and details four new categories for the awards; Water Save, Water Shout, Water Solve and the Chief Executive’s Award for Water Efficiency. The site also contains tips to help businesses complete their entry forms.
All 2009 winners will be announced at a ceremony on the HMS President in London on 15th July.
The awards are sponsored by Defra, Ofwat and the Food and Drink Federation and supported by partners Business Link, Envirowise the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment and Utility Week.

Following the continuing success of this premier international event in 2006 and 2007, London Business Conferences is delighted to announce the 2008 Global Leakage Summit, taking place on 17-18 June 2008 in London
Now a firmly established event on the calendars of international utility practitioners, the Global Leakage Summit will provide the water industry with the opportunity to debate the latest challenges - and to share solutions - and hear an incredible line up of practical case study presentations.
The programme has again been compiled from a unique research process and face to face interviews with practitioners to identify the 'hot topics' that they would like to hear discussed. One of the key themes of this year's Summit is to address the management of change in utilities to improve efficiency and performance. Keynote speakers representing utilities like Rand Water, Aguas do Porto, Johor and the Bahamas - who have all demonstrated success from change - will present their results.
Some of our 2008 speakers are:
Keith Naicker - CEO, Rand Water Joaquim Pocas Martins - President of the Re-structuring Board, Aguas do Porto Glen Laville - Acting Deputy General Manager, Bahamas WSC Bruno Nguyen - Operations Director, Eau de Paris Bojan Ristovski - Leakage Director, Skopje Water Trevor Bishop - Head of Water Resources, Environment Agency
Our international showcase of more than 20 exhibitors will once again be demonstrating the increasing focus on technology innovation, and several will be participating in vendor sessions throughout the Summit. Technologies being displayed are: flow measurement and data capture, leak detection and location equipment, speciality software and pressure reducing valves.
