Job Profile

opportunity for a Water Quality Modeller (surface water) to work on
projects in the UK and overseas.
The Integrated Water Resources Management Team offers a number
of surface water quality modelling services, including complex 3D
models for environmental impact assessments, simple statistical
models for discharge permitting applications, and diffuse pollution
models for catchment management studies. Most water quality
modelling is undertaken as part of a multidisciplinary project
team, which includes hydrologists, ecologists, hydrogeologists and
engineers.

Candidate Specification
You will need:
- Significant commercial experience and the technical capability
to work in modelling and the management of surface water
quality
- A masters degree qualified in a relevant discipline
- An awareness of the legislation and policy influencing water
quality assessment in the UK, including the Water Framework
Directive.
- An appreciation of international approaches to water
quality
- Good oral and written communications skills
- Ability to travel; although based in Cambridge you may need to
work in other UK offices, as well as overseas
It would be an advantage to have some of the following:
- A strong understanding of water chemistry
- Experience of fieldwork and monitoring programme design
- Chartered membership of CIWEM, or similar
- Experience of using the following modelling tools:
- Environment Agency models e.g. River Quality Planning tool
(Warn-Brew method) and SIMCAT
- Visual Plumes
- Urban Pollution Management tools for intermittent discharges
(such as SIMPOL)
- Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT)
- 1D, 2D or 3D Hydrodynamic and water quality models
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Visual Basic,
FORTRAN or Python
- Excellent project management skills
- A proven ability to communicate technical information to a wide
audience including engineers and regulators.
- Competent use of GIS software
Job Description
As the Surface Water Quality Modeller you will undertake water
quality modelling:
- for Environmental Impact Assessments
- for Environmental Permits
- for Environmental Studies
- to Inform the development of project design.
You will provide general technical support to the Environment
Team and support our Water business in offering water quality
services to the UK water industry.
