2015-16 Events Programme Theme: Using Research to Overcome Environmental Challenges

East Anglian Branch Events - 2015-16 Programme

This year's theme will feature live interactive web broadcasts on the theme of "Using Research to Overcome Environmental Challenges", presented in local 'hubs' at business and universities around the East Anglian region, and recorded for future access.

    Nene Washes Site Visit


    Site visit to Nene Washes, including presentation and guided tour.

    The Environment Agency is completing a £26-million bank improvement scheme to strengthen the South Barrier Bank that forms an 18km dam and flood storage reservoir (the Nene Washes) between Stanground and Ring's End, east of Peterborough.

    The Washes are also internationally designated as a Special Area of Conservation, a Ramsar site, a Special Protection Area and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

    A minibus will take you from the site office to view the works and hear about the environmental challenges.

    Booking is essential due to limited spaces. Please register your interest at our booking website, stating if you are a CIWEM member. Deadline for reservations is Friday 14 August 2015.

    Please bring full PPE including hard hat, vest/jacket, boots, gloves and glasses.

    Coastal Advance and Coastal Retreat - one-day conference


    Venue: The Møller Centre, Cambridge, CB3 0DE

    CIWEM East Anglia Branch, in association with UKELA, are hosting a one-day conference on Coastal Advance and Coastal Retreat.

    This one-day conference provides an opportunity to learn about a range of initiatives designed to advance or retreat the coastline, and in particular to hear practitioners' experiences of translating ideas and policies into reality on the ground.

    Presenters from a range of organisations including The Crown Estate, the Environment Agency, NFU, RPA and the RSPB will share their knowlegde and experiences.
