The Midlands New Members' Group (NMG) runs a programme of
initiatives specifically addressing the needs of early career
professionals working in the water and environmental management
sector.
For those keen to get involved in CIWEM yet lacking experience
in the industry, the NMG is an ideal entrance point/ access route.
Membership of the group and active involvement on the committee
provide opportunities to build up networks, gain an insight into
the industry and the operations of CIWEM. It allows individuals to
build their knowledge, experience, competence and confidence in a
welcoming environment.
Members can learn from and support each other, whilst enjoying
themselves and earning valuable CPD.
Established since 2008, we take pride in our innovative thinking
and implementation of ideas. For example, our use of online tools
for event bookings and gathering feedback.
We have organised many successful events including a tour of the
i54 Development Site in Wolverhampton, a presentation on an
Earthwatch expedition, and our popular pub quizzes!
For 2010/11, our theme is 'Reaching Out'. We would like to
engage even more
members, particularly in the East Midlands, and create stronger
links with our main branches, specialist groups and other regional
NMGs. We would like to support the initiative to promote CIWEM in
universities and to continue our charity efforts. Above all, we
intend to work on creating a group that brings real benefits to its
members.
We intend to do this by making our events and initiatives more
relevant and appealing to new members than ever before. For
example, we are looking to deliver 'Introduction to…' style events
to provide basic knowledge of the diverse sectors of our industry,
and encourage the social aspects of our activities.
We welcome the input and participation of our audience. From
ideas for events to assistance organising events.
