Message from the Branch Secretary
April/May 2013
Dear Members
A belated spring is in the air - at long last.
We have a busy couple of months ahead with two technical meetings, a conference and awards dinner, the AGM and our branch Annual Dinner.
We start with the Irwell Water Framework Directive Catchment Pilot meeting at Salford University on 17th April.
Our big event in April is the Pollution Challenge conference and awards dinner. This is a joint venture between CIWEM and the Environment Agency to harvest innovative ideas to tackle urban diffuse pollution from Universities. These ideas will be presented during the conference and the winning ideas will be announced at an awards dinner by Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency. For further information please contact Sam Billington.
On 30th April we will be holding our Annual General Meeting, this year at Liverpool John Moores University. We will also be holding the technical meeting on Coastal Management that was postponed earlier this year.
Our branch Annual Dinner will be held on Friday 17th May. This year we return to Cranage Hall, Holmes Chapel., following a successful and enjoyable event at the same venue last year. Our Annual Dinner is a great opportunity to relax and network with water and environmental practitioners from across the region. This year the single ticket price is £65, and bookings from individuals, small and large groups are all very welcome. A three course dinner, inspirational speeches and entertainment are all included, so book now to avoid disappointment! Please contact Hannah Austin for more information.
Looking forward to June, we have a technical meeting on the challenges of creating the Canal and Rivers Trust.
As always, keep an eye on the events page for the latest information.
Notice of Annual General Meeting
Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the North Western and North Wales Branch of CIWEM will take place at 6:30pm in the Upper Lecture Theatre, Peter Jost Enterprise Centre, Liverpool John Moores University, Byrom Street Campus, L3 3AF.
If any member would like to speak at the meeting or propose an item for the agenda, please contact the Branch Secretary before Friday 26th April.

Message from the Branch Chair.

It's been a busy Summer for the Branch Committee.

Over the past few weeks, we've been busy putting together an exciting programme of events for the coming year, which opens with a guided tour of the Liverpool Waste Water Treatment Works and back by popular demand, our 'Get Chartered!', event will take place in the Winter.

Of course, the programme includes technical presentations, conferences and site visits but this year, keep an eye out for some out of the ordinary seasonal events!

This year's Young Members Competition will be held on 18th November in Manchester. We'll be inviting submissions and posting the full details of the event very soon! Until then, please mark the date in your calendars! Details of all our events will be posted on the webpage throughout the year.

On behalf of the Committee, I'd like to wish a very warm welcome to our 3 new Committee Members.

We're always delighted to be joined by new members of the Committee and would encourage anyone who'd like to play an active role in the Branch to get in touch and come along to one of our meetings.

Being a part of the Committee is not only a great way to show your commitment to CIWEM, support your application for membership / chartership and to raise the profile of your own organisation within the environmental sector, it's also an opportunity to directly influence the events programme and what goes on in your area.

If you'd like to know more or come along to a meeting and join us, please get in touch with any of the Committee Members.

If you have any suggestions for an event, would like to present at, host or sponsor an event of if you have any comments, please get in touch with any member of the Committee.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you for your continued support of CIWEM.

Details of our events can also be found on our linkedin page and will be sent by email to members who have their registered address within the Branch's area.
