North Western & North Wales New Members Paper Competition

The North Western and North Wales branch held its annual New Members Paper Competition and Quiz Night on 16th November at the Peter Jost Centre, Liverpool John Moores University.

Four new members took part, each giving a 12 minute presentation and then taking questions from the audience.

The papers were:

• The Edge Lane West highway widening scheme
  Briony Harvey - Assistant Environmental Geologist from Mouchel
• CSI: Contaminated Land - Environmental forensics techniques in contaminated land
  David Megson - Environmental Scientist from Mouchel
• Spatial variability of suspended sediment yield in a rural river system: the River Eden, Cumbria, UK
  Dr. Carolyn Mills - Consultant Scientist - Geomorphologist from APEM Ltd
• The precautionary principle
  Simon Cole - Senior Environmental Technician from Gwynedd Consultancy

The scoring was very close and the winner was David Megson. The runner up was Briony Harvey.
