    The 10,000 RainGardens Project

    Date: 1st October 2014

    Time: 13:30 - 16:30

Venue: Royal Botanic Gardens, 20a Inverleith Row, Edinburgh EH3 5LR

This is a half-day workshop on the 10,000 RainGardens initiative that aims to introduce
surface water management opportunities to a much broader audience than has generally
been expected before. The need for specialists to educate a non-expert audience on
matters that affect them - flooding, climate change, biodiversity - and the multi-faceted
opportunities that are developing, is long overdue. Is there a slowing of progress towards
satisfactory and truly sustainable drainage arrangements in a climate ready Scotland? This
workshop is open to members and non-members of CIWEM and will be of interest to those
who have an interest in surface water management, biodiversity, community health and
those involved in, and affected by, flood risk generally.

    Natural Capital and Decision Making

NATURAL CAPITAL is under increasing pressure and is often undervalued and subject to unintentional loss. Conversely, emerging markets for ecosystem services, renewable energy, biodiversity offsetting and carbon sequestration are providing opportunities to create additional value from better management of natural capital. Government is also increasingly requiring evidence that natural capital is being managed and enhanced.
