Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself as your new Branch Chair and also to thank you for your
continuing involvement and membership with CIWEM. I have been a
chartered member for four years and am proud to be able to steer
the Tyne and Humber branch in presenting a number of fascinating
and broad reaching topics between now and summer 2016.
We are entering interesting times for the water and environment
industry with a shakeup of funding and responsibility between
central government and local authorities. Who knows where
devolution will lead us, however we must ensure the changes do not
remove our ability to implement holistic solutions through multiple
The recent flooding in the North West has highlighted that
catchment management should continue to be high on the agenda in
the face of continuing budget cuts. We must strive as an industry
to improve efficiency and cultivate innovation at an ever
increasing rate to keep ahead of the climate change curve.
