North West Transitional and Coastal Waters Workshop

River Basin Management Planning - 2015-2021
North West Transitional and Coastal Waters Workshop

Lancaster University, Environment Centre, LA1 4YQ

Hosted in cooperation with the Environment Agency.

A key issue in the north west is high/increasing levels of phytoplankton and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) in the transitional and coastal waters that enter the Irish Sea.  As part of the consultation on the draft River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) the Environment Agency is holding this workshop with three main aims:

    • Present the issues with Phytoplankton and DIN reported in the draft RBMP to external and interested partners.
    • Discuss the issues with a wide variety of individuals and groups, to help better understand what might be driving nutrient inputs and cycling and what the consequences, if any, might be.
    • Seek views and suggestions on potential measures and actions for the 2015-2021 RBMP and in the longer term.

Do you have an interest in these waters? Do you have knowledge or information that would help our investigations? Are there opportunities for joint working in this area? If so then we would like to hear from you.
