CIWEM RCG Spring meeting and AGM

Seeing is believing - visualising flood risk

Join us at the new CIWEM Headquarters

On 22nd May 2014 we will hold our Spring meeting at the prestigious new CIWEM headquarters in London, 106-109 Saffron Hill.

At this meeting we will discuss how we produce, analyse, interpret, use and communicate flood and costal erosion risk management evidence. Please add this date to your 2014 diary.  Further information will be available in March 2014.

    Call for papers

This could be your opportunity to present at one of our events!

If you are interested in presenting at the Spring meeting please submit an abstract of not more than 300 words electronically to Toby Willis  by the 28th February 2014.

We will review your abstract by the end of March 2014 and we will then request Papers and Presentations. Successful papers will be made available on the CIWEM website after the Spring meeting and eligible papers may be submitted for publication in a CIWEM journal.

    Areas the meeting will cover:

    • Producing and analysing information, including the latest developments in hydrology and hydraulic and coastal process modeling.
    • Interpretation and application of evidence for decision making in real life situations.
    • Communication - How can we make technical analysis understandable by all? How can we communicate effective messages? How can we improve understanding and manage expectations?
    • Understanding long term trends in climate change, land use change and social characteristics  and the impact on flood risk management decisions
    • Encouraging a change in behaviour from those at risk e.g. through links to areas of work such as Emergency Planning and Public Health: communication of risk and how it can be managed helps not only to achieve objectives around reducing the likelihood and consequences of flooding but also wider objectives around community resilience and public health.
