    Aim

This conference will reflect on how the lessons learned from 1953 helped mitigate impacts in December 2013; and discuss how we can continue to learn from these events going forward.

    This event will look at:

    • The 1953 event - human cost and technical response
    • The work of the East Coast Flood Group in preparing for a major incident
    • Last winter - coastal erosion and damage - the equivalent of 20 years of impact in one night
    • Forecasting for surges, including further planned developments
    • Warning the public and the role of social media
    • Recovery - restoration of damaged defences and rebuilding communities
    • Government expectations for coastal incident response
