CIWEM's Wastewater Management Panel
is one of the six Technical Panels that exist to ensure that the
Institution is able to fulfil all aspects of its Royal Charter.
Panels are the technical backbone of the Institution.
Scope
Wastewater management is defined as
the collection (excluding the fabric of the infrastructure) and
treatment of municipal and industrial waste water, and the
treatment and disposal or use of the products of these processes,
in accordance with environmental standards.
Terms of Reference
- To provide a focal point within the Institution for expertise
in the field of wastewater management.
- To keep development in the field of wastewater management under
review and to provide technical advice to CIWEM's Council.
- To identify developing topics and to anticipate requests to
CIWEM for comments, in relation to wastewater management. To
prepare Position Papers and up-date them when necessary.
- To assist Council to respond in a competent and authoritative
manner to requests from government departments and other bodies for
evidence in response to consultation papers and enquiries. To
identify consultation papers in advance and assist CIWEM in
planning responses which may involve several technical panels.
- To identify topics within the areas of wastewater management
which would be appropriate subjects for conferences, symposia,
publications, and education and training activities.
- To identify and utilise the expertise of other members of CIWEM
in the area of Wastewater management as necessary.
- To promote the Institution's interests in this field with other
organisations.
- To liaise with other CIWEM Subject Panels in areas of common
interest.
The Panel is charged with a number
of outputs including events, consultation responses, policy
statements, technical advice, representation and publications. The
Panel currently meets three times a year at CIWEM's London office,
and members are in frequent contact via e-mail.

The Waste Water Management Panel has an active and
knowledgeable membership with a wide range of expertise but we
are always looking for new panel members. If you are
interested in this or any other panel and would be happy to devote
some time to the work of the Institution in a voluntary
capacity, please forward your CV to Alastair Chisholm, Policy

100 Years of Activated Sludge
To commemorate the achievements of Ardern, Lockett and Fowler at
Davyhulme, the CIWEM Wastewater Management Panel and Aqua Enviro
are organising a Centenary event on the 2nd and 3rd April 2014.
United Utilities are the Lead Sponsor for the event, and will be
kindly hosting a site visit to Davyhulme.
