CPD is a range of learning activities through which members
maintain and develop their skills throughout their career to ensure
that they retain their capacity to operate safely, effectively, and
legally within their sphere of environmental management. Members
should continue to learn and develop in order to keep their
professional skills and knowledge up to date.
The criteria for satisfying the CIWEM Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) requirements for Fellow, Chartered Member,
Member and Associate grades of membership plus those of the
Science Council, Engineering Council and Society for the
Environment are outlined in the document CPD Guidelines.
Records of CPD hours achieved each year must be kept, together
with factual details of how it has been achieved and any further
planning/training needs. This can be done electronically via the Members Area of the CIWEM website, or as a
hard copy using either, the CIWEM template, notebook or other
computerised files.
For those members who are registered as a Chartered Scientist,
you are now expected to revalidate your title on an annual basis
via the submission of an up to date CPD record. This can either be
submitted via email or uploaded onto the CIWEM Member's Area. If
you are submitting a hard copy of your CPD record, please can you
ensure that it is in the standard CIWEM template and adheres to the
CIWEM guidance notes. The deadline for submission will be October
of every year. For further information on the revalidation process
for the Csci title please visit the Science Councils website or
read 'Chartered Scientist Revalidation' for the requirements
N.B. Please note retired members who are no
longer professionally active are not required to maintain a
CPD record, unless registered as Chartered
Scientists, serving as a Trustee, on a Board
or Committee, acting as a Professional Review Interviewer or
Mentor.
