Wastewater Management Panel

CIWEM's Wastewater Management Panel is one of the seven Technical Panels that exist to ensure that the Institution is able to fulfil all aspects of its Royal Charter. Panels are the technical backbone of the Institution.

Wastewater management is defined as the collection (excluding the fabric of the infrastructure) and treatment of municipal and industrial waste water, and the treatment and disposal or use of the products of these processes, in accordance with environmental standards.

The Panel is charged with a number of outputs including events, consultation responses, policy statements, technical advice, representation and publications. The Panel currently meets three times a year at CIWEM's London office, and members are in frequent contact via e-mail.

The Panel has provided the technical input for the following CIWEM Policy Position Statements:

Environmental Impacts of Combined Sewer Overflows
Food Waste Disposers
Wastewater Biosolids Treatment and Use

The Panel recently produced a special edition of CIWEM's Water and Environment Magazine with articles covering topics such as the development of the new European Bathing Water Directive, soil and land reclamation, and reed bed treatment.
