CIWEM WELCOMES THE DRAFT FLOODS AND WATER BILL Since the Pitt Review of the flooding of summer 2007 and the publication of the Government’s Future Water strategy, there has been a great deal of focus on how to manage both flood risk and water in a more integrated way. ONE OF THE GREATEST THREATS TO THE DEVELOPING WORLD Malaria poses one of the greatest threats to life in the developing world, with more than one million malaria deaths worldwide. CIWEM supports the malaria-related Millennium Development Goals working towards a time when malaria is no longer a major cause of mortality and no longer a barrier to social and economic development anywhere in the world. COMMENDED ENTRY IN CIWEM’S LIVING WETLANDS AWARD The Foulshaw Moss restoration project is restoring 350 hectares of lowland raised mire or peat bog, so that it will once again be home to a wide variety of wildlife for everyone to enjoy. View Press Release
CARBON PAYBACK The payback period of carbon costs induced by the production, transportation and construction of the materials to be used at the Severn Barrage would be less than six months, according to a recent study published in CIWEM’s Water and Environment Journal. View Press Release
WOMEN ARE KEY TO TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE Women represent more than 50 percent of the world’s population yet continue to be under-represented in global governments.
