CIWEM's Journal of Flood Risk Management provides an international platform for knowledge sharing in all areas related to flood risk. Its explicit aim is to disseminate ideas across the range of disciplines where flood related research is carried out and it provides content ranging from leading edge academic papers to applied content with the practitioner in mind.

Readers and authors come from a wide background and include hydrologists, meteorologists, geographers, geomorphologists, conservationists, civil engineers, social scientists, policy makers, insurers and practitioners. They share an interest in managing the complex interactions between the many skills and disciplines that underpin the management of flood risk across the world.

How to access the journal

For a trial period Institution members and non-members will be able to access the journal online for free at www.floodriskmanagement.org. The journal is published four times a year.

How to submit a paper

All papers to be considered for publication in Journal of Flood Risk Management should be submitted online. To submit a paper please click here. There is a help function on the website to guide you through the process.

Papers submitted to the journal must follow the format set out in the Guidance Notes for Authors. Click here to read the Guidance Notes.

The journal aims to provide content reflecting a balance over a period of time across all environmental disciplines with relevance to research related to floods.  A balance will also be struck between theoretical and applied content. Operational, Technical, Scientific and Research papers are all welcome.

Pre-submission English-language editing

Authors for whom English is a second language may choose to have their manuscript professionally edited before submission to improve the English. All services are paid for and arranged by the author, and use of one of these services does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.

Reviewer Recruitment

Reviewers with suitable expertise in the subject area of flood risk management are currently being recruited. Reviewers peer-review technical papers to determine their suitability for publication and advise on any necessary amendments or revisions ensuring that papers are credible and accurate.
