EGM 2008
An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of members was held on Friday 14th March 2008 to consider and vote on resolutions recommended by Council to amend the Institution’s Royal Charter and Bye-laws. The meeting was attended by 27 Members and Fellows who voted as follows:
Resolution 1 to amend the Bye-laws: 16 For, 10 Against, 1 Abstention. Resolution 2 to amend the Royal Charter: 17 For, 9 Against, 1 Abstention.
Even though a majority of the members present voted in favour of a new constitution, because the bye-laws require at least 75% of members to vote in favour of the resolutions, a mandate for change was not achieved. The present constitution will remain unchanged for the time being. The Institution’s Council will meet in due course to consider the implications of the outcome of the meeting. Support for the proposals was encouraging and is a signal to trustees that the membership would like to move forward with an agenda for change.
Many thanks to all those members who took the time to attend the meeting.
