Join the CIWEM Qualifications Panel

Applications are now open to join CIWEM's Qualifications Panel - apply by 31 May 2024

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is a leading Chartered professional body and registered charity with an integrated approach to environmental, social and cultural issues, working for the public benefit of a safer, sustainable world supporting over 11,000 members in 90 countries.

As an independent charity we champion professional standards, impartiality and the use of scientific evidence in the management of the environment. We champion:

  • Highly qualified water and environmental managers, engineers and scientists who are recognised globally for their professional expertise and conduct.
  • Protection of the public from pollution, environmental destruction and natural hazards through the promotion and sharing of best practice.
  • Application of scientific and engineering rigour and impartiality to plans and policies ensuring the best outcomes for society, both now and in the future.

The role

We are seeking applications to fill vacancies on CIWEM’s Qualifications Panel with high calibre people who will be able to contribute to supporting engineering registrants in the assessment of academic qualifications.

The role of the Qualifications Panel members involves considering non-typical qualifications presented by engineering applicants (individual route applicants for engineering registrations) and recommending routes to professional review for them, in terms of meeting a required educational base.

Panel members must be comfortable assessing the content of degree programmes against the output standards for engineering programmes agreed between the Engineering Council and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (please find further information here)

A fundamental principle of CIWEM’s culture is that we are accessible to all candidates. We are looking for a diverse range of driven candidates, who will bring a wide range of skills, thinking and perspectives to the Panel.

Panel members serve on a voluntary basis but are reimbursed out of pocket expenses for attending meetings and for undertaking certain activities on behalf of the Institution.

  • You must be a Chartered Member (C.WEM) of CIWEM and Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • An awareness of engineering degrees and higher education.
  • Be willing to serve for a period of 3 years, up to a maximum of 6 years
  • Be an ambassador for CIWEM to champion our work and membership
