Are you new to the water or environmental management sector and want to showcase your work? Whether you’re working on new research or engineering practices on projects, the joint CIWEM East Midlands and West Midlands branches’ Dr Jenkins competition is your opportunity to gain valuable experience by publishing and presenting a paper. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
CIWEM Members are asked to seek out, encourage and sponsor potential authors.
Dr Jenkins technical paper competition: submission guidelines | Closing Date: Friday 12 May 2023
This competition provides an opportunity for new and prospective members of CIWEM to present papers on any topic in the field of water and environmental management.
The competition is open to all, but preference will be given to those with limited experience in presenting or publishing papers.
Submitting an abstract
Candidates should notify their interest with Andrew Warren at Andrew.Warren@severntrent.co.uk as soon as possible and submit abstracts by Friday 12 May 2023.
Your submission should include:
- An abstract of the paper, up to 600 words in length (tables and figures may be included). The abstract should include a summary of the results of the work described. If the work has been done as part of a team, the contribution made by the candidate should be clearly given.
- Contact details including an e-mail address and contact phone number.
- A brief curriculum vitae including an indication of the circumstances in which the work to be presented was undertaken.
- The name and contact details of a sponsor who should be a corporate member of CIWEM or equivalent and would normally be the applicant’s manager or supervisor. The sponsor may be asked to confirm their support for the paper in due course and act as a mentor in helping the candidates prepare for the presentation.
Judging and Prize-giving
A panel will select the papers for presentation and will notify its decision by Friday 19 May 2023 to all those who have submitted abstracts.
The papers selected for presentation should be submitted to Andrew Warren at Andrew.Warren@severntrent.co.uk by Friday 12 May 2023 at the latest, they should be about 1500 words, no longer than 2000 words, and may contain graphs and diagrams.
The presentations and written papers will be judged at an evening meeting of CIWEM at the SNC Lavalin (Atkins) offices at SNC-Lavalin House, 4 Roundhouse Road, Derby Derbyshire DE24 8JE on Wednesday 14 June 2023 and the prizes presented. Please note that judging will take account of the content and quality of both the written papers and the presentations.
