Supply Forecast Manager / Principal Hydrologist

Job Description

The base location of this role is flexible across Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge – dependent on where you live.

In this dry corner of the UK, we get a third less rain than the average and the water thats available, after plants and evaporation have taken their share, is barely a quarter of what fell out of the sky. We can’t always rely on the region’s rivers and groundwater to supply water, so we store huge amounts in our man-made reservoirs ensuring supplies are there when needed.

Our Water Resources Team plan for the future by effectively maintaining the balance between water supply and demand now and in the future against a backdrop of growth, climate change and regulatory change.


What will you be doing?


Reporting to the Water Resources Strategy Manager, you’ll have responsibility for forecasting the water available for supply. This will include assessing drought risk, the impacts of climate change, and environmental requirements in relation to existing and potential new sources of water. Youll oversee the development and use of hydrological and water resource system models. As a Senior Hydrologist you will also provide technical input to supply forecasts during drought, including for the preparation of drought permits.


Being part of an innovative company you will also contribute to the development and implementation of new methods, working with Anglian Water colleagues, Universities, UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) & Water UK.


What do you need?


As the successful candidate, you’ll be educated to post-graduate level in hydrology/water resources, with chartered membership of an appropriate professional body. 


We are looking for you to have experience at a senior level of the assessment of hydrological impacts in the context of water resources planning. You will have well developed skills covering numerical analysis, modelling, report writing and making presentations.
