Wastewater Strategic Planner

Job Description

This is a great opportunity to shape the future of our wastewater business. You will be planning investment in our GBP 20bn asset base to ensure that we deliver excellent environmental performance now and in the future.

Wessex Water is one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.8 million customers across the south west of England. This role is within our assets and compliance department who are tasked with setting policies and targets, promoting new projects and liaising with regulators.
As a principal strategic planner, you will be developing and managing the implementation of our investment plan for the next five years, ensuring that it meets our long-term objectives, statutory obligations and includes cost-beneficial investments - particularly for wastewater. You will be liaising with the environmental regulators so that their support for strategies and projects is obtained, developing relevant company strategies and identifying strategic opportunities for the company. Other duties include technical assessment and risk management support to ensure compliance with regulatory permits and high-level reviews of wastewater treatment works capacities.

In order to succeed in this role, you will have great analytical and communication skills and will be experienced in delivering results through cross-functional working. Good knowledge of wastewater and biosolids treatment processes and hydraulic design would be beneficial, as would a good working knowledge of the interfaces with other disciplines, eg, civil hydraulic, process, electrical, modelling, etc. You will understand the financial and environmental regulatory frameworks that affect planning and investment in water company assets. You will also be highly interpersonal to enable effective working across all levels of our business.
