Event description

With the risk of flooding increasing as highlighted by the Environment Agency’s National Flood Risk Assessment (NaFRA2), Property Flood Resilience (PFR) that includes flood preparedness, resistance and recoverability measures is becoming more important as part of multi layered approach to flood risk management, not only as a primary mitigation measure but also to deal with residual risk from existing community flood risk management assets.

The introduction of the Code of Practice for PFR in 2021 set the benchmark for the delivery of good practice covering flood hazard assessment, surveying, design and construction of PFR. The Code of Practice is beginning to underpin some of the initiatives being used to deliver PFR by the public and private sector.

Some significant initiatives supporting PFR delivery include the Environment Agency’s PFR Framework and Flood RE’s Build Back Better. There are also a few local authorities that have delivered PFR themselves. The delivery of PFR is relatively new in the UK and these delivery frameworks have been setup to help improve the competency, consistency and confidence in the delivery of PFR helping to improve the public’s resilience to flooding.

This free webinar delivered by BeFloodReady, CIWEM’s Community of Practice for PFR has been developed for all those involved and interested in flood resilience, particularly local authorities, Risk Management Authorities, and insurers enabling PFR delivery. It will discuss the various approaches to delivery, successes and challenges from different perspectives.
