Taking an integrated, multi-partner approach to managing environmental challenges at a landscape scale is gaining rapid traction. Following the EU Water Framework Directive, catchment scale working has become effective in delivering water quality outcomes. The benefits of this approach are now being targeted at managing water resources through a catchment focus in abstraction reform and at flood risk management with an increasingly broad range of techniques deployed within catchments, from upper catchment land management all the way to property flood resilience.
With a new environmental land management regime to be developed as a successor to the Common Agricultural Policy, other factors such as soil health and biodiversity recovery are increasingly likely to be managed in a more integrated way at a catchment level. Such an increasing and complex range of outcomes risks overwhelming the organisations currently involved. So how can best practice be effectively shared, capacity built and a workable governance structure developed?Book now
