CIWEM invites you to an evening talk and networking opportunity on the topic of 'Cities: Water and Resilience' held joint with the British Hydrological Society Pennines Section.
The evening will consist of talks from Paul Simkins, Arup and Lee Pitcher, Yorkshire Water which explore waters role in cities and the Living with Water partnership.
Drawing on examples from research and practice Paul will discuss
the shifting relationship between water, planning and cities, the challenges of
addressing city water resilience and how addressing these might act as a
catalyst for delivering other outcomes for places and people.
Lee’s presentation gives an overview of Living with Water's innovative approach to multiagency working together on flood risk management with a joint strategy to support the area on its journey to become a destination city, adapted to climate change, and helping to build the region an economy fit for the 21st century.

Paul Simkins, Arup | Surviving and Thriving: Exploring the Role of Water in City Resilience, Health and Well-Being
is an Architect and strategic designer working across infrastructure, planning and cities. He previously trained as a civil engineer, specialising in water, environment and public health before moving into architecture, masterplanning and urbanism. His current work includes research and practice around design, infrastructure, resilience, health & wellbeing, valuation and cross-sector delivery.
Paul has recently been involved in
developing the City Water Resilience Approach with the Rockefeller Foundation
in particular working with the Living with Water Partnership in Hull. He is a
chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Royal Institute of
British Architects and Academician with the Academy of Urbanism.
Lee Pitcher, Yorkshire Water | Living with Water: A Collaborative Approach to Resilience in Hull
Lee Pitcher is Yorkshire Water’s Head of Resilience and recently appointed as the "Living with Water" Board’s General Manager to turn Hull into an exemplar resilient City in Yorkshire. This partnership has already seen global success with Hull being the only European City and one of five Worldwide to win a Rockefeller Foundation bid to pioneer the City Water Resilience Framework with partners including the World Bank, ARUP and Stockholm Water Institute.
With almost 20 years in the Utility Industry, Lee has held roles in Customer Service, Asset and Operational Management. He has led organisational design and successfully created and delivered strategy. A former Guinness Book of World Record holder and fluent Russian speaker, Lee recently presented at the World Water Congress in Tokyo.
