A Future Ripple – shaping our future-ready sector

The CIWEM Early Career Professionals Conference 2025 is a first-of-its-kind conference that provides an opportunity for Early Career Professionals (ECPs) to present, learn and network with other early career water and environmental managers, and imagine what a future proof water and environmental sector looks like.

This event, generously hosted by CIWEM business partner WSP at their office (located at 70 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1AF) will produce outcomes that will inform the discussion at the CIWEM Annual Dinner later that evening.

The conference will be suitable for anyone looking to create a compelling future for the water and environmental sector who is in the first seven years of their career. While being organised by CIWEM, this conference is also open to non-CIWEM members, as well as postgraduate (masters/PhD) students.

This event will contribute toward your continuing CIWEM professional development (CPD).

Submit your abstract: Present your project

By early career professionals, for early career professionals

To help attendees get the most from the conference, we invite submissions of a 150 to 200 word abstract on a project or topic they would like to present. These fast-paced 10-minute talks, followed by an end-of-session Q&A, offer a great opportunity to develop presentation skills in front of a supportive early career audience.

We are open to receive presentation abstracts from all disciplines that contribute to a safer, more sustainable future for our planet through their work relating to water and environment. Areas that might be applicable are:

ECPs will benefit from broader exposure to other disciplines in their sector, helping them build well-rounded knowledge to move beyond the siloed ways of working that are currently common and foster collaboration and ultimately, integration.

All attendees, whether presenting or not, will contribute to the conference outputs through participating in workshop sessions and sharing their own experience, observations and passions informing a compelling future view of the sector.

This will be facilitated throughout the second half of the day, where we will hold a workshop session focused on developing recommendations, generated by ECP attendees, to be communicated to the wider sector via CIWEM’s written and online publications, as well as an address by the CIWEM Early Careers President at the CIWEM Annual Dinner which is being held on the evening of the ECP conference.

This is an exciting opportunity for attendees to communicate their views to futureproof the sector and ensure it meets the needs of existing and future water and environmental professionals. We are looking for people and partnerships that have an inspiring, unique and actionable story or approach to empowering positive outcomes. Please share your ideas for content or express an interest in speaking using the link below.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 18 August 2025.
