Event description

The CIWEM Northern Ireland branch invites you to their annual new members’ paper competition to watch the judging and support the selected finalists.

The event provides an opportunity for new and prospective members of CIWEM to present papers based on the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch’s general theme of the year, of “water and environment, adapting to change”.

Finalists’ presentations

Presentations will be 15 minutes long with 5 minutes of question time from the three judges.

About the finalists, chair and judges

The Chair

Daniel Hogan

Daniel Hogan is the current chair of the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch and is an associate in the Water Environment and Flood Risk Management department at RPS.

The panellists are:

Alistair Kenny

Alistair Kenny is an assistant modeller at Atkins.

Matthew Buchanan

Matthew Buchanan is a project scientist | hydrologist at RPS.

Sam Purdon

Sam Purdon is a graduate environmental consultant at Amey.

Sarah McCord

Sarah McCord is a graduate civil engineer at AECOM.

The judges are:

Orla Crothers

Orla Crothers is the Living with water programme (LWWP) project manager at Northern Ireland Water. She is the junior vice chair of the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch.

Robert Smith

Robert Smith is an engineering associate at McAdam Design. He is the senior vice chair of the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch and was the branch’s previous honorary treasurer.

Warren Boal

Warren Boal is technical director at Amey Consulting, based in Belfast. He is the past chair of the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch.

This event is open to members and non-members of CIWEM to attend on the evening.

This webinar will be hosted on the Zoom platform and will be recorded. Please note that registrations will close 24 hours before the event starts. If you have not registered before that time, unfortunately we cannot add you to the event. You will receive an email with joining instructions after you have successfully registered for the webinar and the registration has been approved by our team.
