Event description

The pace at which we need to support our environment, local communities and economy to become more resilient and adapt to climate change has never been greater. This event will bring together representatives from across the water and environmental sector including water companies, public bodies, local authorities, charities and community groups to share what adaptation and resilience mean to them in practise, using case studies of projects that demonstrate a clear and practical action for resilience and/ or adaptation.

The Ripple Effect is a key legacy for CIWEM's current President Hannah Burgess and the Junior President Peter Rook. Our strength is in collective action as professionals in the Water and Environmental sector to take action, share our knowledge and inspire others to act by starting a ripple. Hence the afternoon will feature both presentations and facilitated discussions to inspire attendees with practical ideas to implement through their own networks and local communities, to spread the ripple of action at scale, alongside ample networking opportunities.

Jacky Huson, Southwell Flood Forum

After my house flooded in 2007 and 2013 I wanted to avoid the traumatic experience again. I camped in my house during the remedial works and within days of the flood on 23rd July 2013, I was instrumental in forming Southwell Flood Forum. I've lived in Southwell since 1980 and with my admin/IT background I grew into the role of secretary, volunteer recruiter/'manager', networker - locally and at national events - alongside my work as a massage therapist. I helped arrange events, built relationships within the flood community and my steep learning curve included fathoming the complexities of flooding, mitigation and resilience.
