PRESIDENTIAL THEME
The Ripple Effect: Scaling up resilience and adapting at pace to climate change
CIWEM invites you to join our 2024 virtual Presidential induction event. This year we welcome Hannah Burgess as CIWEM’s 38th President, and Peter Rook as CIWEM’s Junior President.
On the theme of adaptation and resilience to our changing climate, Incoming President Hannah Burgess added: “No one individual can solve the climate and ecological crisis alone. Our strength is in collective action as professionals in the Water and Environmental sector. Let’s take action, share our knowledge and inspire others to act by starting a ripple. How far will yours spread?”
Underpinning the core theme will be the following sub-themes:
- Recognising the central role of local communities for place-based adaptation
- Moving from managing risk to resilient places
- Managing our water sustainably (water supply, water quality and wastewater networks)
- CPD as an enabler to share best practise and equip our professionals (career resilience to changes in industry)
- Harnessing new technologies e.g. AI
This event also serves as an opportunity to thank the 2023/24 President Bushra Hussain and Junior President Emily Clarke for their outstanding contributions throughout their tenures, and all that that they have achieved within their Presidential term. Bushra and Emily will also be presenting the 2024 CIWEM President's award and Junior President's award.
