Event description
Flood Risk Management Adaptations: A Yorkshire focus
The CIWEM Rivers and Coastal Group has organised a study day situated in Leeds. Previously this event was held as a weekend, but feedback from speakers and delegates suggested a day during the working week could be easier for more delegates to access.
This study day will focus upon innovative flood risk management techniques with a Yorkshire focus. Guest speakers will be brought together to discuss innovative flood risk management. The talks will commence with Grace Walburn from HR Wallingford discussing innovative remote sensing techniques and how this is being used to predict long term flood risk trends. Following talks include Jenny Armstrong and Tom Willis of the University of Leeds discussing the iCASP monitoring programme in Yorkshire.
Grace Walburn is a Graduate Scientist at HR Wallingford. Having completed a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Water Resource Management at the University of Southampton she has been at HR Wallingford for just over one year. Grace has been involved in a number of projects including; Severn Thames Transfer Project (STT), Water for Tomorrow and the Climate Resilience Programme - Climate Service prototype development - enhancing the resilience of the water sector to drought events (eFLaG)
The design and innovation used to develop and build the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS) will be another focus of the day. We will host a talk by Peter Charlesworth (Mott MacDonald) who is project managing the Leeds FAS Phase 2 design and build project, before travelling to visit both Leeds FAS Phases 1 and 2. We will be greeted by Leeds Council to discuss the mechanical weir which can be dropped during times of flooding. The we will travel to Calverley to see Leeds FAS2 and Chris Allman and Emily Hale who have been involved with the scheme design.
The last event was oversubscribed so book early to avoid disappointment.
Food will be provided for lunch and transportation via a private coach is included.
Part of the CIWEM Rivers and Coastal series.
