Event description

The RCG online Study Weekend will include an overview of the special Study Weekend trip to the Netherlands which took place in June last year, followed by talks from three speakers focusing on project case studies of positive examples of responses to the climate emergency.

The South Campshire flood protection scheme: Karol McCusker (AECOM) will talk about the South Campshire flood protection scheme that has integrated flood risk management solutions within the public realm, enabling the local community to continue to enjoy the use of the riverside location.

Shoreline erosion reduction at Portrane: Kris Calder (RPS) will discuss the long term proposed innovative solutions to reduce the rate of erosion along the beach at Portrane.

Sustainable Development Goals: Howard Clapp (Mott MacDonald), currently based in St Vincent’s, will share an exemplar project he worked on that achieved several Sustainable Development Goals that illustrates how sustainability cab be better incorporated into engineering projects.

About the speakers

Karol McCusker

Karol McCusker is an Associate Director in AECOM’s Water Business line with over 18 years’ experience. He has a broad experience in Civil Engineering projects, including being responsible for a number of innovative and award-winning public realm projects. He is also a Chartered Civil Engineer with ICE.

Kristopher Kalder

Kristopher Calder (MCIWEM C.WEM CSci) has over 7 years’ experience working for RPS. Kristopher is an Associate within the Water Business line at RPS.

Howard Clapp

Howard Clapp is a Coastal Engineer at Mott MacDonald with over 5 years’ experience. He has worked on a range of projects in the UK and abroad ranging from flood defence optioneering to design and build work.
