Themes of the conference

As ever we will deliver engaging and thought-provoking content through presentations, roundtables and workshops addressing the critical challenges of:

WAPUG 40 and UPM 30 – In a year when we celebrate two significant milestones in the understanding of sewerage assets performance and their interaction with the wider environment, it is timely to both reflect on achievements and, more important, look towards the future of urban drainage management.

Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans - In England and Wales, can cycle 2 DWMP provide a framework to deliver the infrastructure needed over the next 40 years?

Storm Overflow Discharges - Successful Solutions – Our industry continues to gain significant public interest, which rapidly translates into the expectation of action. As we begin delivering in AMP8 it is critical to share best practices and innovation to deliver our programmes and society’s expectations.

Resilience – Sewerage infrastructure is increasingly tested by more frequent high-intensity rainfall, and our customer base has increasing expectations of our ability to perform regardless. How do we maintain and manage a cost-effective and resilient network? How can partners plan and design together to protect our homes from surface water flooding?

Utilising technology throughout the project and asset life cycle – Whether AI, machine learning, optimisation, active system control or high-performance computation, we have a wide range of tools and technologies to support planning, design and operations. Sharing experience of the benefits and challenges of implementing new approaches at scale supports moving our industry forward.

The Adam Dean Award

Adam was passionate about encouraging people starting out in their careers to get involved in their profession by sharing their knowledge and experience through papers and presentations. He saw it as an important step in building self-confidence, communication skills and engaging with the wider profession.

The Adam Dean Award is aimed at encouraging those yet to take the big step of presenting at a conference to develop a poster presentation to be displayed and presented to a judging panel at the CIWEM UDG Annual Conference 2024.

Applications are invited from those with under four years experience who are yet to present a paper, and should take the form of a 200 word summary.

The selection of the finalists will made using the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate clear understanding of the project needs and benefits to client, environment or community;
  • Understanding of technical challenges and / or any innovation;
  • Outline individual’s direct contribution to the project;
  • What has the individual gained from their involvement and how will they apply this in their careers.

The closing date for applications is Friday 9th August 2024. All enquiries and entries should be emailed to jonathan.cutting@stantec.com. Finalists will be notified in early September.
