The sixth of a series of technical talks hosted by the CIWEM Northern Ireland branch in association with the CIWEM Republic of Ireland branch.
This presentation will discuss the potential impact of future climate emergency on coastal communities across the island of Ireland. Examples of coastal regions already affected by coastal erosion or flooding will be discussed in the context of high-level management policies in Ireland.

Kristopher Calder is a Physical Oceanographer who joined the Water and Environment section of RPS in 2013. Amongst other work, he is currently engaged in a number of coastal flood and erosion risk management studies throughout Ireland including in Counties Donegal, Wexford, Fingal and Kerry.
Through met-ocean analyses and the application of numerical modelling, Kristopher has been assessing key coastal processes including flooding, storm waves, dune erosion and wave overtopping for almost 10 years.
Jonathan Cooper is managing director of JBA’s operations in Ireland, based in Limerick. He is Chartered Engineer and Water & Environmental Manager with over 35 years of experience in coastal, river and water resource consultancy. He was Project Director on the Lahinch coastal protection scheme and the Western CFRAM, and is currently managing flood and coastal schemes in Kilkee, Limerick, Cork, Mountmellick and Dun Laoghaire.
