Event description

Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) organised this webinar and ICE Wales Cymru, CECA , CIWEM Welsh branch and CIHT are supporting it.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK started work as Principal Contractor in December 2017 following the award of a (circa)£20 million contract, from Innogy Renewables UK. The wind farm is capable of generating enough renewable energy for the equivalent domestic needs of up to 64,000 average UK households annually.

Jones Bros has constructed 8km of new access tracks, upgraded 20km of existing tracks, built crane hard standings, completed the installation of cabling to connect the turbines to the electricity grid and has completed the 33kV/132kV substation, 4 different types of submerged turbine foundations were also designed, 3 of these turbine foundations were of a gravity based design and one was a piled design solution. Having many different design options available made it possible for Jones Bros to utilise the best foundation design for the ground conditions at turbine locations. Crane Hard Standing Platforms were lowered or raised wherever possible, to achieve a cut & fill balance on earthworks.

The benefits to the local community, with a £19 million community development fund being made available to the local community from Innogy, the use of local labour and materials and the recruitment of apprentices through JB in-house training scheme.
