Event description

The CIWEM East Anglian branch needs your ideas, energy, and professionalism to help shape their branch events programme for the next 18 months. The branch events programme hopes to provide opportunities for knowledge sharing and solving environmental problems.

This in-person event provides the opportunity to meet branch committee members. Whether you are a current branch member or looking to join the committee, come along and find out more about the East Anglian branch. Whether you wish to enhance your career, ‘pay it forward’, or widen your network, we’d love to hear from you. We welcome MCIWEM and Chartered members across different ages, backgrounds, and experience. Attendance at this event will also enhance your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The afternoon’s agenda is:

The branch also has two committee vacancies open and would like more ordinary members to join aswell, to ensure a resilient and diverse committee. The open vacancies are:

About the speakers

Eddie Robinson

Eddie Robinson MCIWEM, C.WEM, CSci, CEnv – Chair (2023-2025) – was previously Chair 2014 to 2016, leading programmes on “inspiring environmental behaviour” and “using research to overcome environmental challenges”. Eddie has over 20 years’ experience within the sectors of flood risk, reservoir safety, nuclear new build and airports. He specialises in R&D, writing scientific guidance, stakeholder engagement and Development Consent Orders. He has worked for Binnies, Black & Veatch, and Royal HaskoningDHV, (including secondments to the Environment Agency). Eddie is currently self-employed, moderating low carbon living and working within his local community in Wymondham, Norfolk.

Emma Hamond

Emma Hammond MCIWEM, C.WEM – Honorary Secretary (2022-present) – has 15 years’ post-graduate experience with Mott MacDonald. She was Co-Chair of the CIWEM Aotaeroa | New Zealand branch from 2018 to 2019. She has expertise in water resources management and water quality assessment. This is mostly in water sector infrastructure planning through her work in the UK, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Emma is passionate about integrating sustainable solutions through her work as well as exploring the wider benefits of nature-based solutions.

Emily Clarke

Emily Clarke MCIWEM, C.WEM, FCIWEM – ordinary committee member – has unique insights having worked in the water industry sector and flood risk management sectors in England, including various Flood Risk Management Authorities. She has an expert understanding of the important stakeholders, their responsibilities, and the policies and legislations that underpin these sectors. She currently works for Binnies and leads on Integrated Water Management. A passionate advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Emily volunteers her time to promote better working practices. She helps raise awareness of gender inequity, hidden illnesses and neurodiversity. Emily enjoys mentoring and developing others to maximise their potential, giving them opportunities to stretch themselves and grow.

Steve Wallbridge

Steve Wallbridge MCIWEM, C.WEM – ordinary committee member – draws on a unique, extensive and varied career. This started with a PhD and academic research in coastal sediment transport and engineering. Then following an 18-month sabbatical (walking around a lot) he worked in sewer flow monitoring and consultancy. 8 years later Steve achieved an MSc in Science Communication and became a chartered member of CIWEM. His next chapter, until 2013, was a sustainability research role in nuclear decommissioning. Currently Steve is a coastal geomorphologist for Cefas in Lowestoft.

About the venue and getting there

The event will take place at the Mott MacDonald, 22 Station Road, Cambridge CB1 2JD. The venue is only 0.1 mile from the railway station, taking around 5 minutes if walking. There are several bus routes running near the venue.

By Train

Cambridge railway station is the nearest mainline railway station to the Mott MacDonald offices and is at Station Road, Cambridge CB1 2JW}. Abellio Greater Anglia, Thameslink and Greater Northern run train services to Cambridge railway station for all those coming from outside the city.

By Bus | Coach

There is a bustop just along from the railway station (Stop 9), Cambridge CB1 2GB. The PR4 and A bus routes stop there.

By car

There is very limited parking available at the venue. If you are coming by car, please consider sharing the journey with others to reduce your environmental footprint. There are local public car parks at:
