Event description

This presentation will describe how modelling crop pollination services by wild bees in England can be used to inform environmental land management policy.

Our speaker, Michael Image from Atkins’ Natural Capital team, will tell us about the wild bee species that pollinate crops in England and why they are important. Then there will be a discussion about how wild bee population pollination services are modelled and how these models inform the best ways to manage land to improve crop pollination services.

Part of the CIWEM Land & Water Management digital series.

About the speaker

Mike Image

Mike Image is a senior consultant in Atkins’ Natural Capital team with over 20 years of professional experience in the environmental management and financial services sectors. His areas of expertise are natural capital assessment, agri-environment policy evaluation, and design of environmental land management schemes.

He has delivered several projects for national governments, government agencies and water companies in the UK and Ireland. His doctoral research conducted at the University of Reading (which forms the basis of the presentation) used spatial modelling, regression, and scenario analysis to examine how agri-environment schemes and tree planting have affected crop pollination services at national scale in England. One of these papers is now available.
