Hosted by the CIWEM Tyne and Humber branch
Event description
Mott MacDonald Bentley are providing design and build services on behalf of Yorkshire Water to deliver an innovative nature-based solution for wastewater treatment. An integrated constructed wetland totalling 4.3ha of planted area is being constructed to treat storm flows, reduce levels of ammonia in line with the fundamental intermittent standards, and improve 4.1km of the River Dearne.
This presentation will provide an overview of the project including an introduction to wetlands for water treatment, the key design elements, and challenges we have faced alongside the progress we have made so far. Our speaker, Olivia Rowe, will also share the sustainable environmental and social benefits that will be we have realised throughout design and construction.
Treatment wetlands are still a relatively novel application across the industry so we hope to share our lessons learned and help promote these solutions as alternative treatment processes and valuable social resources for the local community.
CIWEM members and non-members welcome to attend.
