Hosted by the CIWEM West Midlands branch
Event description
Today most of us are reliant on gas to heat our homes and businesses, with 85% of households using gas central heating. But a waste product of burning gas for heat energy is carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas which, when released into the atmosphere, contributes to the climate emergency. In contrast, when we burn hydrogen to produce heat energy the only waste product is water vapour.
Heating, cooking and industrial processes account for 37% of the UK’s CO2 emissions. So, to reach the climate change target of net zero by 2050 and dramatically lower these emissions, we need a green alternative to natural gas. Hydrogen has the potential to be that green alternative.
The UK’s commitment to accelerate the pace of change means it is vital that UK industry and commerce that currently relies on natural gas as an energy supply, understands the role of hydrogen and its implications on their business.
This webinar will explore the role hydrogen can play in reaching net zero.
