Event description

CIWEM invites you to a compelling webinar spotlighting the Comrie Flood Protection Scheme — a transformative infrastructure project designed to safeguard one of Scotland’s most flood-vulnerable communities.

Located at the confluence of the River Earn, River Lednock, and Water of Ruchill, Comrie has endured repeated flood events over the decades. This £27 million scheme, jointly funded by the Scottish Government and Perth & Kinross Council, is set to protect 189 homes and businesses from future flooding, delivering a robust standard of protection against a 1-in-200-year flood event — with additional freeboard to account for climate uncertainties and wave action1.

This session will delve into the technical and strategic aspects of the scheme’s development, including:

  • The engineering behind flood walls and embankments
  • Integration with surface water management planning
  • Community engagement and statutory approvals
  • Climate resilience and long-term risk reduction

Whether you're an engineer, environmental manager, or policy advisor, this webinar offers rich insights into the delivery of large-scale flood infrastructure in a rural setting — and the collaborative effort required to make it happen.

Part of the CIWEM Flood Resilience and Adaption series.
