Event description

Bringing resilience to the water and flood management ecosystems we rely on every day is becoming increasingly urgent worldwide. This conference draws on CIWEM's presidential theme of reframing environmental action as a driver of prosperity, exploring how growing pressure on ecosystems makes it essential to understand the natural capital they provide if we are to achieve the resilience needed for sustainable growth in a changing climate. It will consider the challenge at policy and societal level, where engineers and water managers have a vital role to play, as well as in the assessment and delivery of major infrastructure.

The conference will also debate the practical requirements of delivering resilience, including the global and local techniques engineers will need to adopt, such as Nature Based solutions. With a panel formed by Presidents of the three main water and environmental institutions in Ireland and the UK, the discussion will highlight why local actions matter in building the resilience needed for the global climate changes predicted.

Part of the CIWEM Nature-based Solutions and Water Resources series.
