About envecon 2026
This year’s envecon conference has two clear aims.
First, to keep nature firmly in the conversation.
At a time of rising geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty and cost‑of‑living pressures, making the case for nature can feel increasingly challenging. Even where decision‑makers recognise its economic value, it is often difficult to ensure nature remains a priority. envecon 2026 will reinforce why nature is fundamental to long‑term prosperity and resilience.
Second, the conference will honour the legacy of two influential leaders in environmental economics: Professor Kerry Turner Willis (d. 2025) and Professor David Pearce (d. 2005). Their work inspired many to enter – and remain in – the profession, and their message remains as relevant as ever: without nature, there is no life, no economy and no sustainable growth.
Both understood that meaningful solutions depend on collaboration. They championed the role of environmental economists in drawing together insights from across disciplines to build robust, compelling evidence that informs better decisions.
The programme for envecon 2026 will showcase the strength of economic evidence, explore tools for communicating that evidence more effectively, and provide an opportunity to reconnect, reflect and renew our shared commitment as a professional community.
