Each year the CIWEM Republic of Ireland branch sponsors the best water-related student presentations at the Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland, ESAI ENVIRON Conference.
They are delighted that two of the recent recipients will be joining the branch on this webinar and telling us about their research.
The first speaker will be Dr Brigid Hooban, who will talk about her work on evaluating antibiotic resistance in the Irish environment.
Then we will hear from Dr Conall Holohan, who will present his work on fat-anaerobic digestion (FADE) biotechnology to generate energy.

Dr Brigid Hooban
Dr Brigid Hooban is a full time assistant lecturer at the Atlantic Technological University. She gained a PhD in Bacteriology from the University of Galway, and completing it at ATU, specialising in antibiotic resistance.
In addition, Brigid has a BSc in Medical Sciences, where she focused on medical microbiology and clinical chemistry.
Dr Conall Holohan
Dr Conall Holohan is technical manager at NVP Energy. He has 9 years working for the company as an environmental microbiologist specialising in sustainable wastewater treatment. With his foundation in both applied and molecular sciences he provides detailed knowledge and understanding of the microbiology and commissioning of the NVP Energy systems.
He obtained his PhD and Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry at the National University of Ireland, Galway and is the winner of the ESAI 2018 Postgraduate of the Year Award and the Ryan Award for Innovation in the area of marine, environment and energy.
This event is open to members and non-members of CIWEM.
This webinar will be hosted on the Zoom platform and will be recorded. Please note that registrations will close 24 hours before the event starts.
