The Flood & Coast Digital Series is designed to share insights from the 2024 Flood & Coast Conference in the lead up to the Flood & Coast Conference and Exhibition 2025, which will take place on 3rd – 5th of June, 2025 in Telford.
A selection of technical presentations and follow-up discussions in a world café style aimed at young professionals. Presentations will be led by young professionals (< 5 years experience) in small groups on flood risk and river management knowledge and learnings.

Maddie Freeman- Site Supervision at Dunball Sluice
Maddie’s presentation will cover:
- A brief overview of the Environment Agency's Dunball Sluice Refurbishment scheme
- A focus on the role and responsibilities of the ECC Supervisor
- Maddie’s experience and learning from this role as a female engineer in my early career.
Meher Rashid – Reservoir Improvements
Meher’s presentation will cover:
- A brief introduction to the use of flood storage reservoirs
- The Reservoirs Act 1975 and MIOS (Legal obligations, deadlines, programme driven projects)
- Some learning from example design projects underway (Wessex reservoirs package)
- Meher’s experience of stakeholder consultation
- Reservoir discontinuance
Jess Hobson- Trash screen Design
Jess’ presentation will cover:
- An overview of trash screen design and it’s importance in relation to flood risk management
- A focus on Jess’ role on current project and key challenges faced as an early career professional
- Design modifications for re-introduced species
