Event description

Rising pesticide concentrations have been observed within two designated Safeguard Zones relating to Public Water Supply groundwater abstraction boreholes. An investigation lasting from 2021-2024 has been undertaken as part of the Water industry national environment programme (WINEP) schemes, this talk will cover:

  • Existing groundwater contamination from pesticides within the Sherwood Sandstone Group in North Yorkshire
  • How we set up our groundwater monitoring network and took samples within the catchments, and the challenges we faced.
  • How we characterised the catchment using all available data.
  • Looking forward, steps being taken to engage the catchment with the aim to reduce the current high concentrations of pesticides
