Event description

The drivers to address water challenges within development are stronger than ever: water scarcity, environmental capacity and flood risk are becoming a very real constraint to growth. Integrated Water Management provides an “innovative” solution to this challenge by combining blue/green infrastructure, technologies and behaviour change initiatives to make the most of opportunities to improve people’s lives, whilst also delivering co-ordinated management of water. This is vital to provide future resilience for our natural environment and society as a whole.

Our speaker, George Warren, is Anglian Water’s Integrated Water Management Lead. He believes that taking a more holistic approach to water management is urgently needed in the UK. Within this talk he will showcase some of the IWM projects he is currently involved in, including an update on the multi-partnered Ofwat Water Breakthrough Challenge funded “Enabling Water Smart Communities” project.

Part of the CIWEM Land & Water Management digital series.

About the speaker

George Warren

George Warren is the Integrated Water Management Lead at Anglian Water (UK), where he looks to bring together water resources, wastewater and environmental planning to identify more holistic water management opportunities across the region.

George previously led on surface water management at the Greater London Authority where he focussed on policy writing and the promotion of retrofitting SuDS across London, for which he was recognised with the 2020 UK Susdrain SuDS Champion award. He has been involved in several award winning retrofit projects ranging from more conceptual pieces to large regeneration projects with a particular focus on retrofitting of SuDS within highways.

He is the past chair of the London Drainage Engineers Group (LoDEG) and the Association of SuDS Authorities (ASA) Reference Group. With an engineering background and experience in consultancy, local government and now a water utility, George truly believes that partnership working is the only way to address the challenges facing us all in managing water within the UK.
